We're doing a Loony Dook (a wee dip in the North Sea) at Cove Harbour in Scotland on New Year's Day and hope that you will reward our insanity by making a small donation to support Liam and his family while he recovers from a tragic accident.

Here is his story...

About 20 months ago, little Liam was 7 years old and a huge football enthusiast, just like his dad. A kickabout close to his home in Northern Ireland ended in disaster when he chased his ball onto the road and collided with a car.

Doctors recommended switching off his life support, but his family refused, knowing that Liam was a fighter and had the strength and determination to get through it. How right they were! Liam's mum has remained at his side throughout his time in hospital in Northern Ireland and is with him in London now and for the next 6 months while he learns to walk and talk again.

I was a childhood friend of Liam's dad Ali, and want to add to the support that's already being provided by local friends and family. The support they need is wide reaching - in the near term, just helping to keep the house running for Liam (when he returns) and his siblings and helping Ali to see his son (and wife) more often that the one time per month that he currently manages. In the longer term to make modifications required to support Liam physically at home.

I don't claim to understand what they need, when and how, but I'd love it if friends and family could pitch in to help make their life a little easier.
