I am taking part in a volunteering programme in Fiji with a small Fijian charity, Think Pacific, who are in partnership with the Fijian Ministries of Education, Youth, Sports and Health. As well as supporting long term educational initiatives for children and local teachers, building and equipping schools, they are also improving the basic sanitation facilities by installing fresh water sources to rural communities and initiating sports development for Island children. 

I will be offering guided assistance to primary school students by offering one-to-one support through small group tutorials and one-to-one lessons with children who have fallen behind in certain subjects. I will be acting as an assistant teacher and organising specific lessons. I will also be leading village and school sports coaching sessions in the rural communities which are engaging and inclusive. 

I am volunteering in Fiji because, beyond the palm trees and beaches, roughly one third of Fiji's population live in poverty. Many Fijian children in rural areas are denied the basic opportunities in life and many families struggle to meet their daily needs. Many schools are in poor conditions and devoid of basic materials. There is very limited access to kindergarten schools for pre-school infants and limited access to basic infrastructure including sanitation facilities. 

Why did I choose Think Pacific?   

* Think Pacific's aim was to create a small and personal organisation, one which works with local communities. It is a non-profit organisation and government backed programme. They aim to invest in Fiji's youth, increasing opportunities for future generations of Fijian children by facilitation access to improved infrastructure, education, training and support.

My Fundraising Target 

* I am aiming to fundraise £1100. The money I am aiming to fundraise goes directly to the ThinkPacific Foundation and your donations will be used to fund the vital building materials, sports equipment and educational materials required to facilitate the volunteer projects in the rural communities.

* I will be funding my own flights and travel to get to Fiji thus your contribution goes directly to the charity so they can fulfil their aims in helping the lives of rural Fijian children and communities.

* All of the project initiatives have been 100% funded by Think Pacific volunteers.
