    Story

Through my Czech neighbour in north London I've been introduced to Eva, a Czech volunteer who goes back and forth to Lesvos in Greece help refugees living in terrible conditions, many with nowhere else to go.

Eva has been helping in Lesvos for the last three years - going back to her family in the Czech Republic to raise funds and heading back again with one or two helpers.. She is tireless and strong and committed to direct aid. She is not part of an organisation.

Eva works mainly to help women and children at Moria camp (photos below are from a November visit). Moria is a refugee camp built for 3000 but currently home to 8000 people. Babies are being born in these conditions and supplies of everything are low. To get food and basic supplies to the island of Lesvos is costly, for example milk costs 14 euros per litre.

Through the winter conditions are bleak as all the people there are living in tents, battling wind, rain and mud. From pictures it looks like a permanent rainy year at Glastonbury but without the smiles, music and freedom to go home.

My heart breaks to think of babies born into these conditions and for their mothers unable to provide for them. I want to raise money so Eva can buy much needed basic supplies: nappies, food, milk and anything else essential. It is better for her to coordinate buying and distributing supplies there, as supporting the hard-hit local Greek economy is also important.

I hope to visit sometime in 2019 but 100% of any money raised here will go directly to Eva & she will be able to provide the help directly to those who most need it. I will send money at the start of the new year, please donate before then if you can.

My heart goes out to all these families left in limbo. And I know how much it means to refugees just knowing that someone out there cares about them. A very worthy cause! xx E and A

Not surprised that this is you doing this Caroline. Puts me in mind of the tents after the Tsunami but more people cared.
