Story
This year Evy will again take part in the Lincoln Santa Run on the 16th of December but this year ....she will attempt to walk to whole 3.5km course!!.
Our Daughter Evy was born with Downs syndrome, this means she finds learning to to do basic things in life like walking, eating and speaking a massive challenge. Evy did not take her 1st step until she was 4 and up until last year Evy still used a pushchair for any distance longer than 100m. Along with this, Evy's muscles fatigue at a rate more than 5 times faster than average, so this distance will feel a VERY long way for her.
She will be accompanied by Mum, Brother Alex, Grandma Heather, Uncle Nick and Aunty Jen. The Santa run itself raises funds for local charities through its entry fees and encourages runners to raise more for any chosen charity. We have chosen Evy's Riding for the Disabled group.
We would like to raised £200 to help the group purchase rugs to keep the ponies warm over the winter. The group has 4 ponies including Evy's trusty steed Cracker - who at 27 years old deserves as much warmth and comfort as he can get. £200 would by each pony 1 warm winter rug.
Lincolnshire Wolds RDA support over 50 disabled young people and adults in learning to ride and carriage drive. They are fully run by volunteers and hold sessions 50 weeks of the year come rain or shine. The group has taken Evy from a non walking, nonverbal shy little girl to a loud, confident rider who is getting read to participant in her first RDA competition. Evy has also made so many friends within the group and it is the highlight of her week.
The Santa run is going to be a big challenge for Evy, it will be hard for her to walk that far and we are sure there will be many rest required on the way round. Please support us if you can!
