Story
Hi guys. My family and I are walking the ‘Follow the seagulls’ walk, where we will walk 50 miles over the space of 2 days around Dartmouth.
As many of you might know my older sister Ellie was diagnosed with brain tumours in 2014 and since then has struggled with the impact that they have had on her life. 2018 was the worst year and massively changed Ellie’s life. In the past 4 years she has had 13 surgeries and lost the use of the right side of her body and the ability to talk. Both areas that she has persevered to get back and to once again be the normal funny, kind, clever girl she was before. She is thankful for so much, from University, to family and friends who’ve stuck by her side.
We are hoping that this walk will push us, however, this little struggle has nothing on what Belle has gone through over the past 4 years. This September, Ellie has come on leaps and bounds, joining Heart of Worcester College and going to Kidderminster college to learn photography. She has also been getting out on her bike thanks to the work of Seven Valley Velo Club and all of the kind people there who celebrate and push her to achieve her goals.
As we go into the new year, her goals are:
- To regain strength and controlled movements with her right hand.
- To work to reduce the impact of fatigue
- To work more with the Brain Tumour trust and raise awareness of the impact of brain tumours on lives.
Our goal by doing this walk is to fund raise as much money to support the work The Brain tumour Trust who have massively supported our family during this time. Every donation big or small will go directly to help families who are affected by brain tumours and the work that needs to be done to support them.
