Story
Trigger Happy TC, York's "second largest triathlon club", are taking on Minster FM's 12 hour triathlon challenge (https://www.minsterfm.com/win/triathlon.php) to raise money for the Friends of New Earswick Swimming Pool (FoNESP). Kara, Danielle, Ian, Jon, Andrew and Owen will be slogging it out against 6 other teams on 9 February at York Sport Village with the aim of raising as much money as possible to support FoNESP.
Over the twelve-hour period from 7:30am to 7:30pm, the Trigger Happy Team will be swimming, cycling and running non-stop at York Sport Village, any support you can give them in raising money for FoNESP would be greatly appreciated.
Here’s a little bit of information about the charity we will be supporting: -
In September 2017 the Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust declared their intention to close the swimming pool which has served the village of New Earswick for 50 years. A group of pool users and village residents, led initially by Martin Richards, decided that they were going to fight to keep it open. They set up the Friends of New Earswick Swimming Pool (FoNESP) a non-profit making Community Interest Company to take on the task of negotiating with JRHT for the lease of the pool.
The Trust were generous enough to extend their original deadline from 31st March to 31st December 2018 to allow FoNESP to develop the structure necessary to run the pool but they had to pass a stringent investigation by JRHT to prove they had the expertise and knowledge to manage the pool successfully. Finally in November 2018 the Board of JRHT gave the final go-ahead for the lease of the pool to be granted to FoNESP.
As from 1st January 2019 FoNESP have been trusted with the oversight of the day to day management of the New Earswick pool and the planning for its long-term future. Any funding received will be put towards helping to modernisation and improve the building, help with marketing to increase the use of the pool by residents and those in the surrounding area, by the young and old and minority groups who want a warm, easy to access pool to learn to swim, improve their fitness or just swim for fun.
