Back in 2013 as most of you know, I suffered a massive heart attack and went into cardiac arrest. I was saved by my hero's -The Paramedics of The Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) https://www.yas.nhs.uk

Life since this event has been challenging, tearful, painful...test after test, stents being put in place and in September 2015 I had bypass surgery to help ease both stable & unstable angina. With very little positive outcome. In November 2018 I hade a nerve stimulator fitted to my spine for both angina and constant 'Hyper Sensitive Pain' in my lower left leg (this goes back to my RTA in 1981). WoW, how technology works...a little tweak here and there and nearly pain free in my leg and when angina shows its ugly face - a few digital buttons later and my angina is masked, it is still there but with the 'pain train' coming into my station.

Because of this device I am now opiate free, that means NO MORPHINE - NO PREGABLIN and a head that is no longer in 'cuckoo land', well most of the time.

I have had use of a mobility scooter (hired) and the freedom this gave myself was unbelievable. I went everywhere and in all weathers. I was free or at least I had regained some independence back.

Now I have a new lady in my life...Layla

She has been the greatest idea that was put to myself in a very long time. Layla is my friend - my companion - my sole mate (after Elliot, Molly & Alison) and my life saver.

I now try and get out three to four times a day. Very short walks or down to the local dog walking field in the car to watch her run freely and being happy. I meet people who are happy to stop and chat, I have fresh air and I am outdoors instead of being inside most of the time.

What the scooter will do is allow myself to take the dog further afield and not always in the car first. It will give myself a greater quality of life, a healthier life and hopefully less visits to York A + E via the YAS.
