I am Gareth. I have worked in the construction industry for over a decade now. When I was at school I realised that I was struggled to learn in a classroom environment and preferred practical learning, and aquired the skills that I have today through the passion of watching others as an apprentice.

When I left school I worked in construction,and learned from the people that had worked in the industry for many years, gaining new skills all the time- I believe I still am. I eventually felt that I had reached the goals I had set myself and wanted to create new goals for myself in life.

At 30 years old after working seven days a week for the past year, both for a company and the weekends helping out others, I decided that it was time to ’go it alone’. I questioned myself time and tine again. Would it work? Was I good enough? I again turned to the people who had taught me everything I new when i first started out. They engcouraged me to go for it and helped me to believe in myself- someone whi had not always made the right decisions. So I did! I set up GBF Property Services.

At first work was steady and I worked hard to put my name out there. I met other people who started their own snall businesses and we currently share a large contract together and have done sucessfully for the past year, as well as working on my own projects. I have enough work that I take on labourers to help me out. However, I want to be help someone out who is just like person I started out as- a young lad who struggled with which path to take. I wish to be able to give someone a step on the ladder, and pass on the skills that I was fortunate to gain from others.

The extra money from the grant would allow to me to give someone a great opportunity as an apprentice. It would help to set them up with the necessities that they would need for working in the construction trade and allow them to aquire skills that they can use throughout their lives whether it be for a career or just everday circumtances.
