Story
A family friend Paul had been undergoing tests for the past year as he was experiencing some health issues. Three months ago Paul was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
Paul is 40 years old and is married to Nicola, they have two young children, Alfie, 12 and Lily, 9. They are a wonderful family who are very strong and supportive of each other as they come to terms with such devastating news.
Paul is now unable to work as a result of the effects of the illness on his mobility and this is limiting the quality of life for him and his wife and young children as there is very little assistance available to provide equipment to help with his limited mobility. To help maintain Paul’s independence and provide quality of life for him and his family when they need it most, Paul desperately needs a powered wheelchair and a stair lift for their home.
Myself and a friend, Carl (who is also a friend of Paul & Nicola) are taking part in Ironman Mallorca in September 2016. We had already signed up for this before Pauls diagnosis but we decided that this gave us an opportunity to help Paul, Nicola and their children by raising money to help them to buy some of the equipment they desperately need.
Any of us could be affected by a similar situation but with your help (and a bit of sweat and hard work from me and Carl!) we can show how much people care and how powerful that support can be.
Please help us if you can.
