Maria and George will be volunteering at the Ubuntu Wildlife Sanctuary in Africa to help Rescue 13 BIG Cats, Rhinoceros, Elephants and more from a life no animal should live.

This sanctuary was set up not only to rehabilitate animals and release them back into the wild but also to change people perceptions of what they think they know about animals.

Many of the animals have lived in small concrete cages and have not had the freedom of living in the wild or stepping on to grass. The work we do at the sanctuary will finally give them the opportunity to live a normal life.

The local children would have grown up watching their parents/members of their community poaching these wonderful animals, which is very very sad and in turn is likely to result in them doing the same. So it is our job to educate the community on the dangers and risks of poaching as well as educate them on animal breeds, becoming ECO aware and how to take care of animals that have been injured or be able to respond correctly when they find themselves in a situation with an injured animal.

We will be responsible for setting up enclosures, and infrastructure as well as rehabilitating and watch as the animal(s) is released providing a unique experience and being able to walk away with a sense of achievement.

Animals that pass through the center range from:

Large predators - cheetahs, lions, wildcats

Raptors

Rhino's

Wild Dogs

Elephants

Penguins and other birds

All contributions go towards the initial rescue of the animals (getting them to the Ubuntu Centre) as well as materials for the enclosures/sites and food etc.
