Story
my name is Sebastian. I am 14 years old with complex needs. I have been on ward 78 since January 3rd of this year as well as being a 'regular' since the original hospital Booth hall - so A Long Time :/
my hair has not been cut properly ( mum hacking my fringe does not count) in almost 3years and up until I made this huge leap to allow it to be cut, it was actually rarely washed or brushed. I know it sounds revolting but I have ''issues'' with people touching it. however Cassie, the play leader on ward 78 has gained my trust slowly and manged to assist me in finally washing it weekly. It was during our weekly hair wash that cutting it was mentioned but for those who know me well, know I don't do anything for free..... Anyhow Cassie would love a sensory room for the ward as currently we are sharing one, so many poorly children who would benefit from using one regular, struggle to do so. As the sensory room has really helped me control my anger in the past and enabled me to totally relax from the daily bustle of ward life, I have offered to help raise the last few pennies needed for Cassie to finalise the equipping of a new room. my hair is half way down my back, is currently shining with health and mum has said she will send it to the Little Princess Trust so hopefully I can help more poorly children receive a wig :)
It feels good to finally be able to do something to help other children and will keep mum off my back about getting my hair cut finally :)

8 years agoToday 5th Oct Sebastian agreed with Cassie to do his bath twice a week AND wash hair!... A huge step from January when bathing/hair clean was at 0. ward 78 is blessed with such a dedicated playworker who has gone above and beyond her role to support not only Sebastian but all the other children who attend the ward. So proud of my boy, to watch him in the bath means much more than just getting cleaned. in the bath he has freedom to move around, to kick his legs and try to turn without support. Thankyou all .. Sebs mum xx
