    Story

Homer Hill Park Christmas ultra challenge

The Friends of Homer Hill Park Cradley are raising money to provide a memory swing and other inclusive play equipment to add to our young children's play area. The memory swing will provide a swing where both parent and child can enjoy playing with eye to eye contact. Perfect for very young children.

On Saturday 7th December starting at 8am, friends Chairman Cllr Richard Body will be attempting to run, walk and crawl none stop for 100 miles on a 1.08 miles route around the park and St Peters church yard. Hoping to finish his endurance attempt in 27 hours, that's 11 am on the Sunday 8th. However even the best laid plans don't always go to plan!

By attempting such a physical and mental challenge, the Friends group not only wish to raise money to enhance our treasured local public open space, we wish to highlight the work of the group and show the health benefits Homer Hill park has to offer. There will be refreshments available throughout the day, a barbecue from 9 am - 3 pm and a chance to win a prize on our fundraising tombola. Take a look around our new park community kitchen, or join Richard for 1, 2 or as many laps as you wish.

53 year old Richard only started running 3 years ago following an HNS health check, that showed him to be obese. After loosing 3 stone in 3 months by speed walking and changing to a healthier diet, Richard started to run for the first time since leaving school back in 1982. Little did Richard know that even before his weight loss, he had arthritis in his knees, so unfortunately Richard is unable to run pain free.

Please join us on either Saturday 6th or Sunday 7th (hopefully before 11 am?) Cheer on Richard, join in and if possible support him by making a small donation.

All money raised will go towards the memory swing with any extra put towards other inclusive young children play equipment.

    Many thanks, Richard

Following a NHS health check back in 2016 which showed I was obese and in the danger zone to develop type 2 diabetes, I started to speed walk eventually leading to try jogging. Although controlling my weight is a battle, running and walking has changed my life for the healthier.
