Story
St George the Martyr Church in the Deanery of Brentwood, Essex urgently needs to raise £4,000 towards roof repairs, to ensure that the fabric of the building remains intact for future generations of the Church community.
It is a Christian (Church of England) Church, serving the parish of North Brentwood & Pilgrims Hatch with a population of 6519 people. The Church is Art Deco in design (built in 1934),is of architectural value, and the hope is that it will gain Listed Community Building status.
The Church holds services twice on Sunday, Wednesday morning and during the major festivals and Saints days. It holds Baptisms, Funerals and a few Weddings. It ministers to the local community and acts as a focus of Faith and help for those in need. It acts as a focus for the local community and many organisations meet in the hall on a regular basis.
The roof repairs include: 15 metres of asphalt skirting repaired, pointing, replacement slabs under the rainwater pipes (which protect the asphalt) and the entire roof painted with solar reflect paint.
The Church is due its Church of England Quinquennial inspection late Summer (where an Architect inspects the Church to ensure that it is being kept in good repair), so need this work completed before the inspection.
Thanks to a generous donor, we have been gifted the asphalt, so our target is now lower!
