    Story

W.I.S.E focuses on "students at risk" who have a practical inclination. The 35 students currently enrolled at W.I.S.E are involved with projects of their choice in technical training in carpentry, boat building, technical drawing, computer graphic design, engine repair, agriculture and gardening, digital music production, and creative workshops such as visual arts, food technology and hospitality. These students are selected to be part of W.I.S.E through self-referral or referral by Anguilla's High School staff or the Department of Social Development.

Hurricane Irma devastated the island of Anguilla, causing considerable damage to W.I.S.E, while we are fortunate that re-building costs will be covered by Government of Anguilla we have lost many of our valuable educational resources including text books, carpentry and musical equipment, computers and sewing machines. It has taken many years for WISE to accumulate the resources needed to operate effectively, but now we are back where we started and really need help in re-establishing a well resourced school to support Anguilla's youth.

Today, just two weeks after getting our new site we reopened to students. Builders have worked around the clock to convert the former factory into a purpose built school. , the tutoring rooms are now complete and the kitchen, woodwork, mechanical engineering and building trades workshops are almost ready. Teaching staff worked tirelessly all weekend setting up their classrooms ready to welcome students today. Thank you for your support. We lost a lot of resources to hurricane Irma but your donations are helping us replace them.

Thankfully a new site has now been secured and the hope is we'll reopen in the next couple of weeks. As you can see it was formerly a factory and the plan is to divide the large open space shown into three workshops for woodwork, mechanics and construction. WISE students don't thrive in formal education but our workshopped, flexible learning approach; which facilitates some ownership of their own learning, gives them a second chance. Thank you for supporting us and making a difference

Many of you have very generously donated towards buying new teaching materials for WISE through the just giving site and we promised to keep you all up dated about our school's recovery. We were due to reopen Monday 2nd October. Unfortunately that didn't happen. The photo below shows the old site after clear up. I'm sure you can understand why it was condemned! Thankfully a new site has now been secured and the hope is we'll reopen in the next couple of weeks.
