Unique is an open, supportive community for people who are looking to learn, share lived experiences and connect with others whose life has been touched by rare chromosome or gene disorders. We are here to support and celebrate people living truly unique lives. We are Unique… and so are you.

Story

This classic Lancashire walk uncovers the rugged unspoilt beauty of the West Pennine Moors. As well as visiting the famous landmarks of Darwen Tower, Holcombe Tower and Rivington Pike Tower, it crosses wild Anglezarke Moor to the summit of Great Hill and also the windswept highpoints of Turton Heights and Winter Hill. So those who successfully complete the route can boast that they have seen the very best of the West Pennine Moors.

This year a team from the Crown Paints (Darwen) Research & Development are taking on this Challenge which follows a gruelling 31 mile circular route in one day on Thursday 3rd September.

The team consists of the following members:- David Adams, Steven Booth, Roger Brown, David Edwards, Paul Fish, Sarah Fogg, John Gbur, Kathryn Kelly, Paul Marsden, Chris Miller, Kevin Morris, Joanne Rigby, Andrea Skelton & Louise Taylor with assistance & support along the way from Peter Vardigans.

Any monies that we raise will this year be split equally between two charities that are equally worthy of our support and are personally meaningful to a couple of the team.

The first of the charities is called CONTACT Community Care which was formed in 1985 in response to a need for more informal social opportunities within the community for people with learning disabilities, to enable them to meet and make friends.  Friendships and an active social life are key factors affecting emotional well being for everyone.  The emphasis is on supporting people who are at risk of social isolation, to form relationships and improve their quality of life.

The second is called Unique which is a source of information and support to families and individuals affected by any rare chromosome disorder and to the professionals who work with them.

We would like as much support from our friends and colleagues to raise as much money as we can.  We are not setting any targets but your generosity would be very much appreciated by the team.
