Each week at least twelve young people in the UK die suddenly as a result of undiagnosed heart conditions. At Cardiac Risk In the Young we aim to save young lives & to help those affected by young sudden cardiac death (YSCD). We do this by providing support, information & screening those affected.

Story

The Kerry-Anne CRY Football Fives is an annual 5-a-side tournament, held on the nearest Saturday to Kerry-Anne's birthday (13th July), with all profits being raised for the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young ('CRY').

CRY aims to prevent Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome ('SADS') and support those affected by the condition.  SADS can be completely distinguished from what we generally understand to be the normal cause of a heart attack, namely coronary heart disease (often associated with smoking, and more prevalent in older people).  In contrast, SADS is the result of a heart abnormality, either acquired or, more commonly, an inherited condition.  Though, if identified through screening, it is possible to save the lives of those with such conditions, either through surgery (e.g. through the use of implantable cardioverter defibrillators) or appropriate lifestyle management.

Hundreds of young people die unexpectedly of heart defects every year.  CRY works to raise awareness of SADS and campaigns for proactive screening of young people. It offers help and support to those who have suffered a loss, provides medical information, carries out Mobile Cardiac Screening and ECG Testing Programmes within local communities and contributes to medical research.  Visit the CRY website for full details:

The Kerry-Anne CRY Football Fives 2012 - Saturday 14th July 2012.

This will be the 3rd year of this tournament, to be held at Goals Soccer Centre, Ruislip. Kick off will be at 11.30 a.m., with the final taking place at 3.45 p.m.

This year will be a 16 team tournament, with 4 league groups, and the top two from each group progressing into the knock out stage of the cup, 3rd and 4th entering into the plate.  This year will prove to be even more competitive, with the injection of several more decent sides, though all played in good spirit of course.

On the day, in addition to the entertainment of the football tournament, we have two fantastic acoustic acts,a BBQ on the patio area and the licenced bar!

Do please come along to support event - there is no entrance fee for supporters, though a small donation to Kerry-Anne's memorial fund with CRY would be very much appreciated.
