Simona & Ryan are hoping to cycle through Cuba in November 2010 pitting us against rural landscapes, off road treks and mountain passes with just our own steam and four pedals between us. The task however is far overshadowed by the cause. We are cycling through Cuba we hope in order to raise money for the Anthony Nolan Trust.

   Over the last 35 years, The Anthony Nolan Trust has grown from the personal crusade of one mother to become a world leader in the field of tissue type analysis and tissue transplant technology saving the lives of thousands of men, women & children not to mention the families and friends who have not had to face losing a loved one.

   Although Shirley’s quest could not keep her poor son alive, The Anthony Nolan Trust has given over 8,000 children and adults the gift of life since the charity was founded over 35 years ago.

   The charity is a real life saver and that is why I particularly want to help. I have added personal motivation which first attracted me to the cause. I have lost relatives to cancer all varieties and I know many of you have too. I want to help and try to make a difference. Leukaemia is a cancer that affects us all, men women and children.

   That is the probably the most horrendous quality of Leukaemia, what makes it such a particularly horrific cancer for us to understand. It is not concerned with race, gender or age. The disease can affect any of us, The Anthony Nolan Trust helps putting suitable donors in touch with those in need and saving lives. Thsi is not just on a national scale either the charity not only helps UK patients but also operates an international database matching donors across borders.

Simona & I are both passionate about this cause and hope we can raise our £6,000 combined target. But we cannot alone, we need YOUR help. To raise the amount we are asking for minimum donations of 0.5% of our target this equates to £28. We appreciate times are tough in the current climate but to put into context what £28 represents: one pizza dinner for two. a round of drinks for you and six mates, two DVDs......

Here is what the Anthony Nolan Trust can do with your money.....

£50 is the average cost which enables a new potential life saver’s blood sample to be tissue typed and potentially quickly identified as a potential life saver when a patient in need of a transplant is identified.

£300 is the average cost of promoting a regional donor drive for getting potential lifesavers onto the bone marrow register.

£700 is the average cost of the collection of potentially lifesaving cord blood. This includes the specialist equipment, materials and time of a mid-wife to complete the collection
