Hospice at home Carlisle and North Lakeland provide a specially trained pallative care nursing service for patients who are at the end stages of life, regardless of the cause, who prefer to remain in their own home with all that is familiar around them.
Hospice at home was established in 1997 with the objective to provide a free at home nursing service to those at the end stages of life. Each year the charity cares for around 300 patients and provides support to their families and carers all services are provided free of charge.
An integral component of community adult pallative care bringing the skills, ethos and practical care associated with the hospice movement into the home enviroment, and putting the patient and those who matter to them at the centre of the care.
The reason why i have chose Hospice at home Carlisle and North Lakeland is because of the care they provided my mam in her own home when she was at end of life stage. The staff looked after my mam for a while especially when i was at work or needed time for myself. They always made my mam comfortable and took great care of her so to thank them i have chose Hospice at home as my charity.
My Challenge
MARATHON DES SABLES 2013
The TOUGHEST foot race on earth.
A race for madmen, lunatics, nutters, headcases and masochists not mention sadomasochists.( I mean putting my friends and family through that).
It covers 243 km/151 miles run over 6 days (7 for some) equivalent to 5 1/2 regular marathons. In addition to that I will have to carry everything I will need for the duration ( apart from my tent) on my back in a rucksack (Food,Clothes,Medical kit, Sleeping bag, Etc) Water is rationed and handed out to me at each check point. I will have to prepare my own food throughout the race. I will experience mid day tempratures of up to 120 F, of running or walking on uneven rocky, stoney ground as well as 15-20% off the distance being in sand dunes.
I need a great amount of self discipline, determination and a will to reach the finishing line. There will be many times during the race when i feel like shit and i will think of throwing in the towel, but with my self motivation, the help of other competitors, those depending on me at home, and Hospice at home you will all help me make it to the end.
