Story

Hi my name is Andy Curran. 2yrs ago on the 15 May 2011 I suffered a near fatal cycling accident whilst out on a Sunday training ride. I was airlifted from Dorking Surrey to the Royal London in Whitechapel where I was sometime later diagnosed with 202 multiple Fractures. These included multiple broken ribs back and front. 7 fractures to my spine a fracture to the base of my skull several fractures to my right tibia and humerus and the loss of most of my right lung after suffering a flail chest and a tension pneumothorax. After laying in an induced coma for 3wks and missing my wedding day I finally arrived home 3 months later.

The past 2 years have been an incredible journey although challenging at times with many hospital appointments and surgery procedures. On the 5th April 2012 I finally made it up the aisle to marry my beautiful wife Charlie. On the 20th July 2012 I carried the Olympic flame in the London 2012 Olympic torch relay, and on the 16th May 2013 our baby boy Alfie was born.

My passion and drive has always been to get back on the bike. I'm sure you can appreciate for very different reasons now. Its now all about giving something back through something that I love so much and that's my cycling.

With the aid and support of the club I am a member of "Viceroys Triathlon" we are setting out our first charity ride for the Kent Surrey Sussex Air ambulance a service that is mainly funded by charitable donation. With out this service I would have died where I fell. It was only for the skill of the individuals, the equipment they carry and the fact that they could get me to the right place for the right treatment that saved my life. This is a service that anyone could find themselfes needing. Any one from a cyclist to a runner, a swimmer or even a dog walker. This I hope will become a club reliability ride that will take place every year with a passion for further charity events, therefore creating a legacy  that will help us reach the overall fundraising target of £15,511. To help us reach this target each event moving forward will have an individual fundraising target of £1,505.11. This target and the overall target refelcts the date 15/5/11 that the Kent/Surrey/Sussex airambulance and its crew truly gave me my family and freinds the opportunity to give something back.

Ladies and gents thank you so much for taking the time to read this. I and the members, freinds and family of Viceroys truly value your support. This really  is a fantastic opportunity to raise some money for a worth while charity. Your details are safe with JustGiving – Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity.

Andy.
