RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour search and rescue service all around the UK and Ireland, while lifeguards keep a careful watch on the UK’s busiest beaches. RNLI lifesaving and drowning prevention depend on supporter fundraising and the generous donations that you and others give.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. We provide a 24-hour lifeboat search and rescue service around the coasts of the UK and RoI, as well as a seasonal lifeguard service on many of the busiest beaches in England and Wales.

The rescue process could not take place without the thousands of volunteers who give up their time to help others, but more importantly, these volunteers could not operate without the training and equipment provided by the RNLI.

It costs an average of £378,000 per day to run the service and it is funded entirely by voluntary contributions.

Our Story

Sunderland marks the end of one of the most popular cycle routes in the UK, the C2C.  Thousands of cyclists pass through Sunderland every year and as both our Lifeboat and Lifeguard stations are on the route, we see hundreds of these determined people finish this very tough ride.

As lifeboat crew we endure some tough conditions, high seas, bad weather and callouts at all times of the day and night.  However, 2010 sees a new challenge for us.  The CYCLE CHALLENGE!

On the 17th and 18th of July, a number of volunteer crew and friends are taking part in the 2 day, 140 mile ride from Whitehaven in Cumbria, to our home town of Sunderland, Tyne and Wear.  We're doing it to help raise vital funds for the institution and we're writing this to ask for your support.

Please help us by donating whatever you can, every penny counts!
