Story

Hello and thank you everyone who has decided to check out my justgiving page and an especially big thank you to anyone who donates.

I am going to cycle from John O Groats at the top of Scotland to Lands End in Cornwall to raise money for the Luhimba Project in the last week of August. The ride is roughly 900 miles and I aim to do it as fast as I can, averaging about 100 miles a day.

On my year off before uni I spent three months living and teaching in a small village called Luhimba in the south of Tanzania, near the town of Songea (gap yah springs to mind). These were probably the three best months of my life. I went as a volunteer with the Luhimba Project, a charity based in Weston-super-Mare. It was founded to fund projects that the villagers said were most important to them. The work of the charity has provided primary schools, a secondary school, water pumps and a surgery amongst many other things. However, there is still so much that can be done to help.

Having spent a lot of my time in the secondary school teaching I want to raise as much money as I can to help the students there. They are studying subjects such as Maths, History and Sciences at GCSE/A-Level standard except they're learning them in a foreign language, English. If this wasn't difficult enough they lack teaching resources such as stationery and text books to help them and in classes as big as 70 finding somewhere to sit isn't even that easy. There are loads of other equally worthy causes that the money I raise will go towards; such as the continuing development of an irrigation system to allow farmers to grow more crops; backing for village businesses; medicine/mosquito nets and some very essential footballs for the ridiculously skilled village and school football teams.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.
