Story
Rob, Tony and Sarah are setting off on an epic adventure on 1st May starting off in Lands End. They plan to cycle approximately 950 miles to the opposite end of the country, John O’Groats. Hopefully it will take about 10 days, weather/illness and bottoms permitting! In doing this they hope to raise money for a fantastic cause; Iain Rennie Hospice at Home. Please pledge any amount you can, all will be very gratefully received and we will very appreciative of any support offered.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Iain Rennie Hospice At Home will receive your money faster and, if you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Thank you, cheers to happy cycling : )
ADVENTURE UPDATE
As off 7th May they have cycled approx. 640 miles, broken down as follows:
day 1 Lands End to St. Austell - 57 miles
day 2 St. Austell to near Postbridge (Dartmoor) - 70 miles
day 3 Dartmoor to Bristol - 108 miles
day 4 Bristol to Ludlow - 93 miles
day 5 Ludlow to Slaidburn (Lancs) - 136 miles
day 6 Slaidburn to Carlisle - 82 miles
day 7 Carlisle to Edinburgh - 94 miles
Weather has been quite kind. Started off in Cornwall very warm, bright and sunny but awful head wind on the first day, which was very tough going. Going into Bristol on day 3 was cold and misty. Some rain on day 7 going up to Edinburgh.
They were behind schedule for the first few days, but are back on track now, they have a train ticket to come home Friday night from Inverness on the sleeper train, so are determined to be there for that.
IRHH nurse, Jane Hill, has spoken to them every night and they sound quite bright and cheery. Keep up the good work!
Well they are nearly there now! When they rang late last night, they had got to Ansell (n. west of Dingle) 110 miles yesterday, quite a wet day.
Today (Thursday 9 May) they hope to get right up to John O'Groats, then they (just!) have to cycle back to Wick to get the train back to Inverness, ready to get the sleeper Friday night. Would'nt you think there would be a main line link at the end of Scotland?!
The group are hoping to meet up with Moira Rennie (the wife of our first patient, Iain Rennie) before they return as she lives in Scotland.
Thursday 10 May - well they've made it!! Had a really tough day, wet all morning, cold and a north headwind all the way. However they managed to meet up with IRHH President,
Moira Rennie
, and all had tea together which was great!
They have befriended a man in a hotel where they are staying tonight who runs a coach from John O'Groats to Inverness and has offered to take them and their bikes to
Inverness
at 10.30 in the morning for free, so they are really chuffed with that.
104 miles today and 908 total for the trip.
