RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour search and rescue service all around the UK and Ireland, while lifeguards keep a careful watch on the UK’s busiest beaches. RNLI lifesaving and drowning prevention depend on supporter fundraising and the generous donations that you and others give.

Story

Hi everyone,

Well, I made it!  Arrived at Sennen Cove Lifeboat Station, Cornwall, on Saturday 1st May at about 2.30pm, fourteen days and 975 miles after leaving Scrabster Lifeboat Station in Thurso, Scotland.  Thanks to everyone who donated money to the cause, either on-line through this page or in person.  The money's still being collected but at the moment it looks like the final total will be getting on for £1000, which is much more than I'd hoped, so thanks everyone once again.  This is almost enough cash to fully kit out one brave lifeboat crew member, which will help save lives at sea.

I've put some of the photographs of the ride on this page, please have a look, and there'll be more on my facebook page so please look at that too.  You can contact me through the facebook page too, just search for Lee Riley-Thompson.

If you read this page before I left, you'll remember that my colleague Heath was cycling with me; unfortunately he picked up an injury in Scotland so had to pull out, but you can't keep a good man down and he'll be back fundraising for the RNLI again very soon, so watch this space.

The ride was a great experience, tough at times, though I met some fantastic people along the way and received lots of support and encouragement.  It's nice to know that there's still lots of kindness and generosity in the world, and I was given donations and help by lots of folk whilst pedalling through Britain.  I'd like to take the opportunity to thank Heather at Penrose Holiday Park, Goonhavern, Cornwall, who let me camp for free at her lovely site, Mr. & Mrs. Pratley from Oxford and Mrs. Greer from Callandar for their donations whilst I was on the road, Terry George from the Sennen Lifeboat and all the other kind people who greeted me at Sennen, the crew of the Scrabster lifeboat for seeing me off, the Charnocks for the lift to Scrabster and their hospitality before the off, and to most of all Abigail, my wife, for support and encouragement in this and everything else.

Thanks again folks, see you on the road, Lxxx
