Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In May 2009, my 3 year old daughter Lily became ill, complaining of tummy ache, after several trips to the doctors, we finally got an appointment to see a paediatrician in our local hospital. A day later we were in Great Ormond Street Hospital, and 2 weeks later were told the devastating news that Lily had cancer. There was a tumour on her right kidney, which grew very quickly to 20% of her body weight.

After a month or so of intensive chemotherapy, the organ and tumour were successfully removed in a 6 hour operation. When she'd recovered from the surgery, Lily had a short course of radiotherapy, followed by a further 7 months of chemotherapy.

I'm very happy to say that Lily's treatment finished in February this year, and she's just like a normal 5 year old girl now, going to school full time. We have check-ups every 3 months, but Lily deals with this just fine.

During a very difficult time for us, Clic Sargent really helped us through it, arranging breaks for us as a family.

One of these is a trip to Malcolm Sargent House this Xmas, where I'll be taking part in the "Dip wi' a nip" at Prestwick beach on Boxing Day to raise funds for Clic Sargent. Basically it involves running into the Firth of Clyde (the sea, to you and me), which I'm imagining won't be very warm at the moment!
