Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
Dan, Esther and Chunk will be cycling fromLand’s End to John O’Groats this September; a distance of 1000 miles over a 12 day period - something we are sure we would not be able to achieve without our fourth team member and support driver, Alice.
Anyway we are assured it should be fun at some point! The good news is that we are doing this for a reputable, yet not widely recognised charity. Send a cow (www.sendacow.org.uk) is most definitely one of the most worthwhile charities we have come across.
Founded in 1988 the charity originally sent cows to starving Uganda where Dan spent his GAP year. Now 20 years later the charity works in seven countries and supports new and established projects by supplying cows, goats, pigs, poultry, bees and fruit trees. Jane Mulumba received one of the original Jersey cows sent out by a farmer. It is still alive, and has given her eight calves so far. She says her eight children are all healthy due to all the milk they have been able to drink. They have also had a diet rich in vegetables, which Jane has grown on land improved by her animals' manure. She has used the money from selling the surplus milk to buy poultry, a pig and a goat. "The cow gave me the foundation for all these developments," she says. "It has enabled me to pay the costs of my children's schooling and to put up a new house. It has helped me to overcome my problems." Help us to Help Jane and others like her to help themselves. Whether your donation is large or small it will be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks, Dan
