Story
In May this year I was part of a team of 12 rowing from the London Eye to the Eiffel tower in an adventure gig. At any one time six crew rowed, one coxed and five tried to get some sleep on a support boat that I can only describe as being like the Orca from Jaws. I say at any one time because you need to think that we covered 505 miles, rowed for six days, crossed one of the world's busiest shipping lanes, oh, and there are only three times a year that the tides make it even possible to attempt.
I started training in October and covered more than 1,000,000 metres on a rowing machine, including a marathon, so I hope you agree, a serious challenge, but that's not the reason you should sponsor me........
.......the real reason is that the challenge is nothing compared to that faced by the tiniest babies born prematurely. They rely on round-the-clock care and specialist equipment that costs many thousands of pounds. The simple truth is that most neonatal units don't have sufficient funding to buy everything they would want in order to provide the very best care. It makes a difference, like it did for my nephews when they spent week after week in incubators.
There's no doubt the challenge was a test, both mentally and physically, but completing it will only be worthwhile if it makes a difference to the many Ickle Pickles born each year.
Every donation counts, large or small, please do what you can!
Thank you.
