Story
This spring, our son Luke will be two years Off Treatment for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. To mark this milestone, the whole family, including 3 year-old Laura, will be taking part in the Manchester leg of Ian Botham's Great British Walk.
We are raising money for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research because it is a charity which provided us with crucial information, help and support when we needed it most. We also feel that Luke's current vitality is a testament to the value of research into this area. Forty years ago the cure rate for leukaemia was 9%. Today, after years of research, it is closer to 80%. But we want to make it 100%. We also want to fund research into finding a more tolerable cure, with fewer adverse side effects. Current treatment involves 3.5 years of chemotherapy, which takes its toll on a child's quality of life.
