Story

Please note: This fund is to raise money for the Police Dependants' Trust, who are in no way associated with this case, nor responsible for setting up this fund, nor are any members of PC Coffill's family. This fundraising appeal has been set up by me, a serving Met Police officer, to raise funds purely for the charity in Daniel's name. Daniel Coffill, as far as I am aware, is not in receipt of any funds or care from the Police Dependants' Trust.

========================================================

Daniel Coffill, a 21 year old PC with the Metropolitan Police, was punched and kicked in the head by Daniel-Lance Samuels and Jack Turner because he refused to light their cannabis joint. He was beaten so hard, he was put into a coma.

One year on, PC Daniel Coffill is still in a vegetative state and needs round-the-clock care.

Now the despicable yobs responsible for this tragedy have both had their original sentences reduced.

But while Jack Turner and Daniel-Lance Samuels can expect to return to society in less than five years, the reality is very different for PC Coffill and members of his family.

Describing her son’s existence as an “empty shell”, Margaret Gardhouse says there is very little chance her son will ever recover. She feeds him through a straw.

Turner and Samuels will soon be walking the streets again, while a promising police career is over and a family left devastated.

I have started this fundraising page for the Police Dependants' Trust because so many of my fellow officers want to *do* something in the light of this case, and I think that raising money for this charity is one of the most appropriate things we can do. We want to show that we care about young men whose lives are irreparably damaged by violence. As Daniel was a police officer, raising money for the Police Dependants' Trust seems, to me, the best place for our money and thoughts. Although he was off-duty, Daniel's case highlights just some of the very real dangers that are hapenning out on our streets night after night - the very dangers that police officers are working tirelessly to combat. What happened to Daniel Coffill could easily have happened to anyone. His attackers were unaware he was a police officer, as he was off-duty at the time of the incident.

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to donate. The Police Dependants' Trust will receive your money electronically and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in Gift Aid will be added to your donation at no cost to you.

Please donate generously, and let us show PC Coffill's family that police officers will never be let down by their fellow officers and grateful members of the public from across the country.

For those unsung heroes who make personal sacrifices to keep all of us safe, this appeal is for them.

Many thanks for your support.
