Welcome friend / relative / both / neither / etc...
Thanks for taking the time to visit my fundraising page! I thought it would be far more enlightening if Carys' parents told you a bit about her condition, so here is a snapshot: "Carys Olivia was born on 16th April 2008 - outwardly perfect! But after 9 days we learned from the heel-prick test that her thyroid was underactive or even absent (hypo-thyroidism). The thyroid produces a hormone, thyroxine, which 'runs the body's metabolism' - so when absent, both physical and mental development can be severely impaired. We were shocked and incredibly worried when first told, but soon learned that the condition is quite common. For many patients it is completely treatable simply by taking a small pill or liquid solution once a day. Carys has taken medicine daily since she was 11 days old - a time-consuming challenge to begin with! Having recently celebrated her first birthday, she continues to thrive as a chuckling, crawling, unstoppable little girl. We're so pleased Dan is raising money on behalf of Carys and others, and can testify to how important the BTF and their research is. david & vicky harknett." If you would like to know more about the condition, do visit the British Thyroid Foundation website and take a look: http://www.btf-thyroid.org/ Any donation, however small, is very much appreciated. Thanks very much Dan
