Story
I can’t believe that I’ve agreed to walk / climb the UK Three Peaks Challenge – and for it to be completed within 24 hours!
I leave Cardiff with a bunch of other fools on Friday 6 July, and the clock starts ticking the moment we set foot at the base of the mighty Ben Nevis (1,344m) in Jockland – then via a cramped and smelly minibus journey (when we’re supposed to get some sleep), on to the Lake District to conquer Scafell Pike (978m) – another dodgy minibus ride later (no doubt with as little sleep as the previous journey), finally to the wonderful Mount Snowdon (1,085m) . . . .
It’s all in aid of the very worthy Velindre NHS Trust - Velindre Cancer Centre is the largest non-surgical cancer hospital in Wales – the ghastly Big C has affected many people very dear to me, as I’m sure it has done for many of you.
My training regime has been long and arduous – just not focused correctly – it’s consisted almost entirely of late nights out, good food, a drink or two and sitting at a desk – but I’m committed now – and even my dodgy knees and hugely-expanded waist-line won’t deter me – so if you’re able to support me in any small way, at least you know I will be in pain!
(What’s more – with little phone reception I may be a bit quieter on twitter - surely that’s worth a donation on its own.)
You’ve made the first step (a lot less than I’ll need to make!) by visiting this page - so please do take the next by making a donation – it will be appreciated by many more people who really need it.
Cheers, Dan
