Meningitis UK funds lifesaving research to find a vaccine to eradicate all forms of meningitis. Sadly the disease can be incredibly difficult to detect as the symptoms are similar to the common cold or flu, plus there are occasions when people show no, or very few, symptoms.

At the age of only 7 weeks, my brother, Joe, sadly died of meningitis. It was a really difficult time for my family and I. If I can make even the smallest amount of difference in developing a preventative vaccine, and have an impact into putting a stop to the heartache it causes; then by running in the Bupa Great North Run, in memory of my brother, I hope to make my family proud. 

I will be running 13 miles on Sunday 20th September 2009 in the Bupa Great North Run at Newcastle/Gateshead.
