The Regional Rehabilitation Unit (RRU) comprises of a multi-disciplinary team that works to meet the needs and provide support for young adults with wide-ranging severe neurological disabilities resulting and to help them return to community living.
Since I started working at the Unit I have met many remarkable people, and with the expert help of the nursing staff I have been able to gain the skills needed to become part of RRU team. I have also been privileged to witness so many examples of bravery and determination from patients as well as their families as they overcome some very distressing and challenging times…
So it is for this wonderful Ward that the brothers Curtis are going to run a whopping 52.4 miles between them, Dan has already raised a fair sum running the London Marathon whilst in the process beating his brothers personal best with an admirable sub 4 hour time, I however will just be happy to finish the course within the weeks annual leave I have booked. As per usual, my otherwise exemplary training regime – beer, chips - has been scuppered by injury and night shifts, which have left me three weeks to attain peak fitness.
So, I'd like you to sponsor me, to give me that extra encouragement to get my wobbly 31-year-old-ass-in-gear and plod round the undulating 26.2 miles of Scotlands Capital. Just for the record, I managed 12 miles after a morning shift on Saturday - but could barely move come the afternoon shift the following day….
