Story
Dear Friends,
Let me introduce myself, I am Daren Parr and I am a black cab driver. I am having a short break from driving the cab but the good news is I am off to Uganda on the 30th March 2007 for 12 days of hardship (did I say good news). I have been accepted onto a TV Programme called Extreme Dreams, the celeb on the programme is Ben Fogle (yes the one that rowed across the Atlantic with no clothes on, I’ve made him promise to keep them on this time). I can here you asking what will I be doing
so let me tell you. I will be trekking the Mountains of the Moon, it will take 14 days from start to finish. I will be camping out in the Jungle for the whole period, cooking on log fires and of course scaling the great treacherous mountains to reach the summit. There will be a guide, a film crew, 5 other nutters who want to do something extreme before their body gives up on them and “the celeb Ben Fogle”
For the past twenty years I have done almost no exercise, eaten far too much, drank a little (well a lot) and smoked over 20 a day, so I am not going to find the trek easy, but with the support of family and friends I am hoping to make it all the way to the top (and back again).
To help me and keep me focused in my hours of need (I know there will be many) I decided it would be a great idea to get sponsorship and help a very good cause and what better cause than the Greenwich & Bexley Cottage Hospice. The charity is one very close to my heart; they looked after my father-in-law, John Martin in his final days. Their kindness during and after the loss of John has known no bounds so I would like to help them keep helping others.
If you would like to make a donation through this site to Greenwich & Bexley Cottage Hospice and help inspire me to reach my Extreme Dream the hospice and I would be eternally grateful.
Many thanks.
Daren Parr
PS - Watchout for this programme to be shown on BBC TV in late August.
