In July 2010 my oldest sister Sharon Nicholson was diagnosed with a grade 4 GBM- the most aggressive form of brain tumour. After a long and brave battle the cancer won and Sharon sadly passed away on June 28th 2013 aged 59, on mum's birthday.

i found out about brain tumour research and support across yorkshire ( then known as andrea's gift) which is a yorkshire based brain tumour research and support charity, back when she was first diagnosed. Their vision is clear and simple –  to find a cure for a devastating disease that affects so many people. Around 5,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with a primary brain tumour each year and around 700 of them are from Yorkshire and receive treatment through the Leeds Teaching Hospitals. Within that number, around 25 are children – brain tumours kill more of our children than any other cancer.

 

The death of my sister has affected me deeply. She was a very kind caring person who always put others first and had great people qualities. she had a love of people. She was the best sister anyone could have. if you met sharon -you never forgot her!

I have been busy campaigning along with others from the charity on twitter (@dazlufcpresley) trying to raise awareness.

I will be raising money by doing various projects one of them is singing - i aim to do a marathon of karaoke around yorkshire all for brain tumour research over the coming weeks- if you see me say hello.
