WE DID IT !!!!!

5 hours and 32 minutes.

We are running the London Marathon on 26th April 2009.

We (Darren and Alex) are running for Whizz Kidz who are about giving disabled children and young people the independence to enjoy an active childhood - at home, at school and at play. By providing them with customised mobility equipment, training, advice and life skills, Whizz Kidz actually give them something much more important; the independence to be themselves.

Children and young people are at the heart of their work. By putting their needs and the needs of their family first, we make a powerful and life changing difference to their lives.

In order to give you value for money (and to maybe bring a bit of attention to the charity) we intend to make complete fools of ourselves and run in fancy dress.

The more we raise the more ridiculous we are prepared to be, so see below.

8th April...Nonsenseness Update...After a bit of research and prediction of the final likely total (pledges etc.) we have opted for Cheerleaders - so look out for a couple of very strange looking BLUE and YELLOW themed cheerleaders on the 26th...

TOTAL WE RAISE

More than £3000    = A Bee and a Ladybird
More than £3300    = A pair of Cheerleaders

More than £3600    = A pair of Nuns
More than £3900    = A pair of Princess Leias (complete with Chelsea Bun Hair !)
More than £4200    = Shrek and Princess Fiona
More than £4500    = 1980's Madonna and Ginger Spice

It is also worth knowing that disabled children have virtually no chance of getting a powered wheelchair on the NHS and the service Whizz Kidz provide has an enormous impact on young people's lives. They work with local NHS wheelchair services to joint fund mobility equipment where possible, but the goal is to build more strategic partnerships with them so that they can pool expertise and resources and help many more children.

Since Whizz-Kidz was set up in 1990 the charity has changed the lives of over 4,500 young people and has become the UK's leading children's mobility charity.

UPDATE 16th March - We both completed the Silverstone Half Marathon yesterday in 2hrs 25m so we are hopefull of still achieving our target finish time for the marathon of around 5 hours.

Also, as we write the total is £40 short of our first fancy dress option target at £2960 so a massive thank you to all of you have sponsored us so far - very much appreciated

UPDATE 4th April - We managed to hit the infamous wall at 18 miles yesterday but the fact we completed 3 1/2 hours of running gives a bit of confidence that with the right food and sleep in the week leading up to the 26th we should make it around - still hopefully of a 5 hour finish although it might 5 hours and a few minutes rather than 4 hours 50 something minutes...
