Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. In 1240 King Henry III ordered by a writ that the lands of his brother Richard of Cornwall should be confirmed by a boundary perambulation. The lands in question were the Forest of Dartmoor. It was decreed that the Sheriff of Devon and 12 "lawful knights of the country" should undertake the mission. The perambulators completed their task and the King's wishes were obeyed. On May 23rd I will be following in the knights foot steps by running the 42.5 mile route of the perambulation. The route winds its way through just about every aspect of 'wild Dartmoor' taking in tor, streams, bogs and fen. Not only is the terrain extreme but the weather can also be very unpredictable making map reading very challenging.
