During the first weekend in October, my co-driver Jim and I (along with about 100 other cars) will be takingt part in the Round Britain Reliability Run, which basically involves driving from London to John o'Groats to Land's End and back to London. Which is a total distance of 2,000 miles. And all in 48 hours.
The event is open only to Triumph cars (the youngest of which rolled off the production line in 1984) and my own chariot of choice is 2 years older than me, having been built in 1971, and is in marginally better condition…..
So, that's 2,000 miles, in 48 hours, in a 39 year old car.
The organisers, Club Triumph, are this year raising money for the MIND, the mental health charity, which is a most worthwhile cause, and are hoping to raise at least £50,000.
I'm hoping to raise at least £500, and every little you can donate will help towards that target. I'm also hoping that the car will make it all the way round the route again, and not have to be trailered home from Penzance like in 2006 – something that still hurts even now.
And, as the car is currently off the road, stubbornly refusing to run on more than 3 cyclinders, I suppose I’d better start thinking about some preparation work......
