IIH UK aims to provide the best possible support network for people with IIH and their families, to raise awareness and understanding of IIH within the general public and medical community and to champion and support medical research into finding a cure for the condition. Charity Number 1143522

Story

Almost two years ago Karen (Dave’s daughter, Neil’s sister) was diagnosed with Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH) which is a rare but serious neurological condition where too much Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) builds up inside the skull leading to pressure on the brain. As a result, Karen lost some of her peripheral vision and suffered daily headaches. Many different treatments were tried including numerous lumbar punctures but eventually in December 2011 Karen had surgery to insert an LP Shunt which drains the excess fluid into her abdomen and reduces the pressure.

After completing the 50mile Pedal for Scotland challenge last year and raising money for the Aberdeen Eye Clinic, this year we are taking on the challenge of the 110 mile sponsored cycle from Glasgow to Edinburgh via the Southern Uplands on the 9 of September to raise money for IIH UK. The charity provides support and information to anyone affected by IIH and continuously needs funds to raise awareness and to continue much needed research into this serious yet relatively unknown condition.
