Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

The MS Challenge took place near Capel Curig last July. We had to complete a 10km course as a team of 12, carrying Johnny, who suffers from MS, in a wheelchair.

The ground conditions were appalling – affected by heavy rain on Saturday afternoon/evening. By Sunday, during which the rain started up again despite a deceptively sunny start to the day. The combined rainfall had now turned the rivers into torrents and prevented us doing two river crossings. The mud was unbelievable. At one point i was trying to choose the best route across a particularly nasty patch and made the wrong choice which resulted in me getting stuck up to the thighs in thick mud. My calves were already strained slightly so every time i tried to pull myself free i felt muscles pulling and of course pain. I couldn't seem to get out. I did escape but let me just say this, you don't know the meaning of humiliation until you have to be literally pulled out of the ground by two or three  other men, while others stood around looking on in dismay and sympathy at my plight!!

The rain seemed to be torrential throughout our "journey" and there were even hailstones at times. All of our team, and poor Johnny were absolutely soaked and had to traverse several muddy streams (which were now like rivers) and we often had to pretty much swin from one side to the other in water which was never below waist-deep and at one or two points was up to our necks!! I'll never know how we managed to safely get our pasenger across these trials without him falling in! We were all completely shattered by the end although there was a fantastic sense of achievement and relief. The sense of team spirit was amazing and everyone helped and supported the comrades along. It's because of this that I'm doing it again this year!
