WaterAid is an international not-for-profit, determined to make clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene normal for everyone, everywhere within a generation. Only by tackling these three essentials in ways that last can people change their lives for good.

Story

This summer I will be swimming across Lake Windermere, one of Britain's largest and most famous bodies of fresh water.

Fresh water is our most precious resource.  Millions already struggle to survive without access to it.  Meanwhile, a combination of mismanagement and climate change is lowering water tables and destroying wetlands around the world.

WaterAid are trying to do something about that, bringing sustainable clean water solutions to those who need them most.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: WaterAid will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor me now!

Many thanks for your support.

Dave

UPDATE

Thanks very much to everyone who has sponsored me so far!  We have now far surpassed my original target, so I am moving the goalposts: let's go for £400!

We can't be sure what our specific donations will be used for, but according to WaterAid's website that much money could pay for 16 springs to be protected in Uganda, for 8 village hygeine training courses in Tanzania, for training 5 villagers to maintain water supplies in Ethiopia, for 4 hand-dug wells in Nigeria, for 2 locally-built rope pumps in Mozambique, or for one school sanitation block in India.

By the way, my training is coming along nicely, and I can confirm that I will be swimming the longer (3km) route across the lake.
