Hi to all.
Well, this time last year (27 Aug, 2009), I was in Cumbria after coming down from the Pennines.
I still feel very fortunate to have been able to experience so many unforgettable moments, especially with the wonderful people I met during my walk. A journey that began at Brighton pier on the 10th of May, 2009, and finished at the pier 5 months later on the 10th of October, 2009.
A walk, covering around 2,000 miles that took me through 27 counties.
As you all know it was done in aid of the incredible work being achieved by cancer research organisations in the UK, Australia and New Zealand. but also to raise awareness to the importance of early diagnosis in certain cancers.
During the walk, there were people I met who suggested I should write a book about my journey, and I have been in the process of doing this over the last few months.
Immediately after completing my walk each day, I would record as much as I could remember along with notes I had jotted down, into my word document pages. It would include everything from description of areas that I had walked through, weather conditions, people I had met, to personal feelings, memories of the past, random thoughts etc.
After the evening meal I would then open up my Laptop to update my web diary and progress map. Parts of the previously written word document would then be copied and pasted into my web page. So you see, the material is all there; its now just a matter of putting it all together. ....Easier said than done!
While staying with my daughter in Australia this past winter I spent much of the time writing and collecting historical data on more than 120 locations; places where we settled for the night.
My daughter suggested that I should also include a traditional recipe from each of the 27 counties I walked through. It would, she pointed out, widen the readership base if the book was ever published.
Now my daughter, I suspect, is a little smarter than her father, (she has been since she was three years old!) so I have thought it wise to taken her advice!
I have written up an introduction to the book to give you some idea about its content.
Please go to 'Intro to The Book' link at the top of the home page on my website.
At the bottom of the Intro page you will see a list of hyperlinks that when clicked on will open up random dates showing written recordings for that particular day.
Incidentally, if you can remember meeting me anywhere along the way please don't hesitate to email me about it. There were times when, through sheer tiredness, I might easily have forgotten to record a meeting with someone. Email: dave@davesbigwalk.com
If you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure that 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your Cancer Research Uk donation.
So please press the 'Intro to my Book' link and after reading it you might still give to my charity!
