Story
I'm running the Great North Run on the 15th September. This is partially because I'm proud that the world's greatest half marathon is in my home region. Mainly this is my relatively feeble contribution to the tremendously important 'Leading Light' campaign run (literally) by my great mate, Dom Goggins.
Dom's best friend died of blood cancer when he was 19. Since then, Dom's been doing all that he can to help fight the disease. This involved him carrying the Olympic torch as the culmination of a year that involved Dom running multiple marathons and triathlons, as well as running the entire length of Hadrian's Wall (albeit finishing at the wrong end). Just before the London Olympics, Dom set up 'Leading Light' with the goal of raising £1million for the cause between London 2012 and Rio 2016.
This is my contribution to the cause, which seems terribly minor compared to the iron man triathlons and ultra marathons endured/ enjoyed by the rest of the team.
It's over a decade since I last did the Great North Run and my body has got much creakier since then. But this is a great cause and I'd encourage you to give just a small amount to help Leading Light fight blood cancer.
