Story
Thanks for visiting my page.
I'm running for Tommys charity which funds research into premature birth and miscarriage, as well as offering advice and support.
One of the reasons I'm running is that both our children were born prematurely.
Max was born at 36 weeks, and apart from jaundice was fine and came home with us a few days after he was born. He's now 15 !
Olivia on the other hand was born at 31 weeks and we spent 9 weeks with her in the special care baby unit in the Royal Free hospital in Hampstead.
Thats her in the picture shortly after she was born.
To give you an idea as to how small she was, the nappy that she is wearing in the photo was the smallest that they made and her whole body measured from the tips of my fingers to the bottom of my hand!
I had never seen anything so small and fragile!
It was a difficult and stressful time but we were very lucky. She just needed to be fed and kept warm and after nine weeks we were able to take her home.
Other parents who had babies in the special care unit at the same time as us were not as lucky.
I'm raising money for Tommy's charity because we were lucky, and also to help parents who have premature babies in the future and to help fund reearch for those who suffer the pain and upset of a miscarriage.
Please sponsor me to run the London marathon for Tommys. Having run the marathon before I can assure you that the pain I shall feel at the 23 mile point will be awful, at 24 miles it will be horrendous, and by 26 miles I shall in agony. The only thing that will keep me going to the finish will be knowing that you sponsored me!
Thanks
David
