Myself, Shaun Sproates, David Garthwaite and Chris Nesham completed the 33 mile walk to St. James' Park on Saturday April 24th. We set off from Newton Aycliffe at 03:30 and arrived into Newcastle at 12:30.
After watching the 2-2 match and seeing the team lift the trophy we set off home on our bikes. the cycle took us 4 hours and we arrived back in Newton Aycliffe at 22:30.
We received a lot of support on the day, from bacon sanwhiches at 6am, to beeps from lorry drivers and passers by. We even managed to get aphotographer to capture the moment and a TV crew to get a quick interview.
Everyone arrived home well, just a few sore knees and bums to show for the effort!
We are in the process of collecting all donations, then we will know our final amount. I am condifent we have reached our £2000 target thanks to everyones support!
A big thank you from all of us involved!
Dave.
Thanks for taking the time to look at my page.
My name is David Neale, I am 22 years old and I live in County Durham.
I've decided to set myself a mission: to raise as much money as I can for the Sir Bobby Robson Cancer Foundation!
As a fanatic Newcastle United fan I was deeply saddened when the news broke that Sir Bobby Robson had finally lost his battle with Cancer, his determination to help raise awareness and fight cancer (5 times!) was outstanding. Not only was Sir Bobby a much loved figure in the world of football,he was a generous, humble man and never forgot his roots.
A few years before his passing he set up the Cancer Foundation in his name. It has already made alot of money from donations and fundraising events and I hope that my fundraising event can do the same.
I have been personally connected with cancer sufferers, it is obviously a horrific disease and causes so much agony and distress to the sufferer and those around them.
As a current season ticket holder I will be attending the last home game of the season (April 24th), which is against Ipswich Town (Bobby also used to manage Ipswich) my plan is to walk to the game from Newton Aycliffe (approx 33 miles) and cycle the same distance home.
I would love to be able to attract as much support as I can and I'm hoping to promote the event and get lots of people involved, this will include bucket collections and articles in local newspapers. I think you will agree that this is a very worthy cause and doing this will hopefully raise alot of funds for the foundation.
If you would like to sponsor me, get more info or you think you can help please follow the instruction below or contact me at dmneale9@aol.com
Thanks again,
Dave
