We are supporting Diabetes UK in memory of my father, who died in October 2007 aged just 51 from complications with Diabetes.  He was a kind, generous and loving man who helped so many people from family, friends, colleagues and strangers in different ways throughout his lifetime.  He had always wanted to visit Africa but his deteriorating health meant that sadly the Kilimanjaro Safari at Disney’s Animal Kingdom was the closest he ever got.

Following my fathers death 18 months ago, I have lost nearly 7 stone in weight and found a new passion for all things health and fitness related, which Dad would be proud of.  So ... we thought what better way to use our new zest for life then to climb a mountain, in loving memory of Dad and to support Diabetes UK who are the UK’s largest charity devoted to the treatment and care of diabetes.

The trip, lasting approximately 10 days, spans the 2 year anniversary of his death.

Over 2.5 million people in the UK alone suffer with diabetes, and in many sufferers affects every possible aspect of their lives, including loss of sight, kidney failure, and even limb amputation - all of which my father suffered to some degree.  Many people do not realise the seriousness of diabetes, it is a terrible disease, and we would like to raise awareness of it, as well as money for Diabetes UK.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Diabetes UK gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
