Story
Just Got Back from Jordan !!
...to raise funds for the Douglas Bader Foundation, a Charity that I Chair and have been involved with since its inception ,following the death of my father in law Douglas Bader ,in this our 25th Anniversary year, with the purpose of continuing his inspiration to both able bodied and disabled via a number of inspirational initiatives all identified on www.douglasbaderfoundation.com .
My personal goal is to raise funds for a recent DBF initiative 'Bader Flying Day' which offers primarily terminally ill or physically disabled youngsters the opportunity to experience a flight (s) in a light aircraft for the first time.
We held out first Flying Day last year at White Waltham, where Douglas had kept his own aircraft ,and to witness the sheer joy on the faces of the children from the experience- and their parents and families - has resulted in the desire to hold at least two of these days a year - in fact I have both White Waltham and Popham Airfields already booked for spring and summer 2009 !
The Hike is a challenge and not a 'jolly' and involves hiking approx 20 klicks per day for 5 days - I can see you are not convinced so have put the itinerary below !
DAY 2: Warm up trek. Dead Sea float. Camp. 2-3 hrs
DAY 3: Through small wadis (riverbeds) with views of Edom Mountains. 7-8 hrs
DAY 4: South along jeep track to Bedouin village. Past acacia trees to camp. 6 hrs
DAY 5: Undulating terrain. Beautiful scenery all the way to Little Petra. 8 hrs
DAY 6: Spectacular trek into Petra finishing at the famous Treasury.
If you fancy joining our 2009 trek - location to be decided - then let me know and as soon as i have the details I will email them.
