Starlight is the UK’s leading charity for children’s play in hospitals and hospices. We work to ensure every child can experience the power of play, supporting their mental and physical health during treatment and recovery from illness.

Story

Let's be clear on one thing. I'm not a runner! I'm a website designer/writer who spends most of his days staring vacantly into space, awaiting inspiration. The most I run is a Flash movie file, which highlights just how much of a geek I am.

As a rule I sit on my bottom all day and never exercise. To be honest I'm generally a lazy fop. So nobody was more surprised than me when I saw the Adnams 10k run advertised and I said to myself; "Sounds good. I'm going to do that!"

I can't explain where this epiphany surfaced from so I'm going with divine intervention.

The majority of people don't really comment when I mention that I'm doing a 10k run, but my close friends and family have recoiled in a mixture of shock and sheer bewilderment; "Wowsers!", "Crikey!" and "What are you trying to do, kill yourself?"

My first run wasn't a pretty sight. I had Saint John's Ambulance on speed dial and resembled my late 16-year-old dog after a walk around the block.

Yet despite the breathlessness, searing pains in both legs and a recent bout of man flu, I'm adamant that I'm going to do this. It's a quantum leap, a huge lifestyle change and a good opportunity to raise both awareness and money for a great cause.

Training for this race won't be a walk in the park. I normally walk along the cycle paths. I expect it'll be very hard work too!

This is where I get down on my knees and beg for your help... If my aching limbs permit such a feat.

Please sponsor me. Seriously. Please. I know you have your eyes on that bottle of vino from ASDA, but please for one night  just put the money aside and donate. I know you're thinking of downloading "Steps: The Ultimate Collection" on iTunes, but we both know you have all their albums anyway.

You don't need to give a lot, but any amount you can spare would be greatly appreciated. If the world's going to change then us lazy people need to get off our backsides and do something about it.

I hope you can support me in my endeavour, if not financially then simply sharing this link or shouting "C'mon you big ginge!" at the finishing line will suffice.

Thank you for your time.
