My story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online and support WaterAid.

WaterAid aims to provide safe water, sanitation and basic hygiene education to the world's poorest people in 17 different countries.£15 provides each member of the receiving community to receive these benefits that we take for granted. The simple but reliable and locally sustainable systems are jointly planned, and wholly built and managed by the communities, and accordingly WaterAid has one of the lowest administration budgets of any large charity.

The Challenge
I have now completed my 19500km cycle trip around Australia, starting in Perth WA in October 2007 travelling via Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Cairns, Darwin, Broome, and ending in Perth September 2008.  This anti-clockwise route took advantage of prevailing tailwinds and avoided the rainy / cyclone season in the 'Top End'. I visted some of Australia's famous National parks, including Kakadu near Darwin, and cycled many thousands of km across semi-desert where water is scarce and people even scarcer! I am now 59, a lifelong cyclist, and had always wanted to do something like this, and felt that this was the right time time in my life to do it. I was generously been given a year off work by my employer (unpaid of course!), and will go back to the same job, same desk, on 1 October 2008.
I have recording my adventures daily as I went, whenever I found an internet connection, at

How to donate
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: WaterAid will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
