My personal message:

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online and support WaterAid.
WaterAid aims to provide safe water, sanitation and basic hygiene education to the world's poorest people in 17 different countries.£15 provides each member of the receiving community to receive these benefits that we take for granted. The simple but reliable and locally sustainable systems are jointly planned, and wholly built and managed by the communities, and accordingly WaterAid has one of the lowest administration budgets of any large charity.

The Challenge
I am going to cycle around Australia, starting in Perth WA in October 2007 travelling via Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Cairns, Darwin, Broome, and ending in Perth September 2008. Total distance using the coastal roads is around 15,000 km but I will probably wander off-road occasionally, and so expect to cover nearer to 18,000 km (11,000 miles approximately). This anti-clockwise route takes advantage of prevailing tailwinds and (hopefully) avoids the rainy / cyclone season in the 'Top End'. I'll be visiting some of Australia's famous National parks, including Kakadu near Darwin, and will cycle many thousands of km across semi-desert where water is scarce and people even scarcer! I am 58, a lifelong cyclist, have always wanted to do something like this, and feel that this is the right time time in my life to do it. I have generously been given a year off work by my employer (unpaid of course!), and will go back to the same job, same desk, in October 2008.
I will be recording my adventures as I go, whenever I find an internet connection, at
