Kilimanjaro Hike 21st October · 2 October 2005

The Hospice helps people to live their precious lives well. Our care has many forms – at home, in our outpatient Spring Centre or through specialised care in one of our Hospice beds - and is defined by each person's need. We rely on donations to raise the £6m we need each year to fund our free care.

Story

Well, I made it up to the top early on Thursday 27th October morning as the picture shows!

It was a long hard slog for 4.5 days to reach the top. With little sleep, stodgy food and being unwashed for a week in the company of 30 other like-minded random individuals this was indeed a social and physical challenge!

It all worked out for me - no altitude sickness beyond the expected headache arising from 50% less oxygen in the air at nearly 20,000ft. Glad to be back down again!

"HOSPICE IN CRISIS" was the headlines in the local paper on 5th October 2005. SPECIAL THANK YOU TO TRING AND BERKHAMSTED COMMUTERS WHO HAVE ALREADY SPONSORED ME VIA THIS WEBSITE AND/OR GIVING ME CASH WHICH HAS BEEN PAID IN BY MYSELF. I CANNOT THANK MOST OF YOU PERSONALLY SINCE I DO NOT RECEIVE YOUR CONTACT DETAILS - BUT THANK YOU AGAIN! WHAT'S IT ALL FOR? With one in three people affected by cancer at some point in their life, and 739 new cases diagnosed each and every day, the need for expert care and emotional support is greater than ever. By taking part in this challenge I am helping cancer sufferers to benefit from a range of services such as nursing and other specialist health professionals. Donating using a Gift Aid form will, if you are a UK taxpayer, increase your donation by an extra 28% at no cost to you. I'm at treecottage@btinternet.com if you have any questions or need help and appreciate your consideration of this fundraising campaign. Many thanks for your support. I will leave this website open for the forseeable future should you or someone you know wish to help The Hospice of St Francis in their time of real fundraising need! David Cobb
