Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

I started in 1981 by doing sponsored walks, by first of all walking the "West Highland Way"  and then again the following year.  Thats when the "Sponsoring" bug hit me ! Then every year since I`ve done marathons, half marathons, climbed Mountains both here and in the Himalayas and sponsored marathon bike rides for the sheer hell of it ! However, I always thought that some charity should benefit from my efforts and maybe help some people who were unlucky enough not to have been blessed with the good health that I was lucky enough to have, however. last year I was diagnosed with Prostate cancer, so this time as the old saying goes "It`s personal" !" and I would like to try to raise as much funds as possible to pay back the brilliant care that I was fortunate enough to receive from the Cancer specialist teams.

At the beginning of July I am attempting to walk/climb  the West Highland Highway, which is the high level route of the West Highland Way, covering around 150 miles with an ascent of around 60,000 feet, which takes in twenty four Munros.  This is the equivalent of climbing Everest twice or Ben Nevis 13 times!!  I hope to complete the challenge in around 18 days, carrying all my own camping gear and food - unless any of you kind souls would like to accompany me on any day, and bring some grub!!

I am raising funds for both Macmillan Cancer Support and Mountain Aid, and I have  a separate page for donations to Mountain Aid, so please visit that page too!!! www.justgiving.com/davidmclellan1

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Macmillan Cancer Support gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me now!

Just a note of thanks to all my sponsors and a wee update on my training so far. Going up my local hill of Tinto most days, and also out on the bike too and usually up a Munro or two at the weekend, took part in the marking and sweeping (Clearing up after them !) for the participants in the Caledonian Challenge last week, so completed quite a few miles of the West Highland Way, everything ok so far, just praying that I don`t get any last minute injuries !

You can all keep your fingers crossed for me..........

Yippee !  Finally done it. not that ony that but I managed to beat my target by a long shot !

I eventually exceeded the figures of 150 miles which ended up at 186 miles !

And my ascent of 60,000 feet ended up at 74,000 feet

and my Munro tally of 24 ended up at 30 !

The reason I achieved this was, I ignored the advice I got from Annie and Jean K.  to have plenty of rest days

And I felt just like Forest Gump (!) and kept on walking !!

for everyone who sponsored or helped me in any way I give my heartfelt thanks..
